Kitchen Porter

As a Kitchen Porter (KP), you play a vital role in maintaining the efficiency and hygiene of our kitchen environment. Reporting to all chefs within the kitchen, your responsibilities encompass a diverse range of tasks including the following:

  • Basic food preparation
  • Washing up, cleaning, and clearing all kitchen areas
  • Unloading and putting away deliveries
  • Emptying bins, sweeping, and mopping floors
  • Ensuring all equipment is clean and put away correctly
  • Deep cleaning fridges and storerooms to maintain sanitary and kitchen safety standards
  • Level 1 Food Safety Award
  • Awareness of manual handling techniques
  • Awareness of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) and chemical safety
  • Experience with kitchen equipment
  • Basic understanding of English
  • Level 2 Health and Safety in the Workplace Award
  • Level 2 Food Safety Awards
  • Experience or training in using dangerous equipment such as knives
  • Any relevant experience in a commercial kitchen environment
  • Basic food preparation skills, such as vegetable preparation
  • Understanding of kitchen equipment
  • Understanding of cleaning kitchen equipment
  • Understanding of cleaning kitchen areas and surfaces
  • Ability to prepare and clear food service
  • Knowledge of kitchen health and safety
  • Knowledge of food hygiene practices
  • Good oral communication
  • Attention to detail
  • Good level of numeracy
  • Adaptability to change and willingness to embrace new ideas and processes
